For more than five decades, WUSC has partnered with communities, institutions and governments in Kenya to expand access to education, strengthen livelihoods and create opportunities for people to thrive.

Our journey began in the 1970s, working through local partners to support refugee access to higher education. Over time, our work evolved beyond education to address broader development challenges, including youth employment, gender equality and inclusive economic participation.

In 2013, WUSC formally registered in Kenya, establishing its country office in 2015 with a small team of three staff members. Since then, our presence and partnerships have continued to grow, enabling us to respond to emerging priorities while delivering lasting impact.

Between 2016 and 2019, WUSC launched the Learning through Education and Access to Skills for Employment (LEAP) programme in Turkana County, helping refugees and host communities gain the skills and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods.

Building on this foundation, 2020 marked a new chapter with the launch of the DREEM programme and the Volunteering Cooperation Program (VCP), expanding support for youth leadership, economic inclusion and locally driven development.

In 2023, WUSC broadened its regional footprint through the Action for Paid Childcare Sector Transformation (ACT) project, advancing quality childcare systems and recognising the care economy as a critical driver of women's economic empowerment and inclusive growth across Africa.
